Duplex S31803 forged threaded fittings are mainly used for joining piping systems for small pipe diameters (Small Bore Piping); it is one of the oldest methods generally for pipes where the nominal diameter is NPS 2 or smaller. Grade 2205 Threaded piping is commonly used in low-cost, noncritical applications such as fire protection, domestic water, and industrial cooling water systems. UNS S31803 Threaded Tee is used at places where welding is not permitted as they do not require welding.
UNS S31803 is a duplex grade with a ferritic-austenitic microstructure. The alloy consists of around 40-50% ferrite in the annealed condition. It has superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion as compared to 317L stainless steel.
