Cu-Ni 70/30 Forged Socket Welding (SW) fittings are mainly used to permanently join pipes that are inserted into a recess in the fitting, flange, or valve. Once correctly inserted, fillet-type sealing welds are applied to join the pipe to the fitting. It is commonly known as SW pipe fittings, with SW elbows, SW couplings, and SW tees being examples of different types.

Copper Nickel Alloy 70/30 is comprised of 2% to 30% nickel and has high oxidation resistance and stress corrosion cracking resistance. The main, wrought copper-nickel alloys chosen for seawater service contain 10 or 30 percent nickel. 70/30 is readily cold-worked, fabricated, and welded without any special material considerations. 70 30 Cu Ni also has excellent resistance to attack by freshwater, boiler feedwater, and steam.
